The Coordinator of Intramurals & Recreation supervises and coordinates the university's recreational sports programs, including intramural sports, club sports, and open gym; the Andorfer Recreation Center; and provides oversight of the university Fitness Center. The Coordinator manages promotion and hires, trains, and supervises student staff teams for the three main functional areas: Intramurals, Recreation Center, and the Fitness Center. This position assists with developing opportunities to engage students outside the classroom to promote wellness and active participation, administrative functions include long-range planning and goal-setting, works with budgets, maintains financial and historical records, and assumes other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Student Engagement.



Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Manages the daily operations of the intramural sports program by developing and maintaining safety and operating procedures, conducting program evaluations and assessments, purchasing and maintaining equipment, and ensuring that staff adhere to and are trained on risk management procedures. Provides guidance and support for registered student organization sport club programs and open gym.

Provides oversight of the Fitness Center, promoting its use to campus constituents, coordinates facility and equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement, and management of inventory, new purchases and capital projects.
Provides oversight of the Andorfer Recreation Center, providing professional customer service and communication to Recreation Center clients, both students and external clients. This includes upholding Recreation Center rules of conduct to clients in an appropriate manner, supporting Rec staff in procedural implementation and training, and timely communication with other managers of service and facilities issues. Specific attention to safety and facility maintenance is necessary in regards to the Bowling Center operations.

Coordinates the development of the annual budgets for areas of supervision and uses learning outcomes to develop program goals for area of supervision. Serve as the primary staff responsible for expenses related to facility operations in the Rec Center, Fitness Center, and recreational programs. This position makes significant recommendations concerning operational budgets.

Coordinates the hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of all student employees for Recreation Center, Open Gym, Intramurals, and the Fitness Center.

Supports the planning and execution of Welcome Week, Homecoming, and other campus-wide initiatives.
Effectively communicates and collaborates with other departments, especially Security, Athletics, and Buildings & Grounds, regarding incidents, injury reports, facilities, and space usage.

Remains competent and current though self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses.
Support the programming and training initiatives of the Office of Student Engagement.
Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree is required; a Masters degree is preferred. A degree with an emphasis in recreational sports management, college student personnel, student affairs, or other related area is preferred.
Requires effective organizational, management, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. A working knowledge of financial operations is preferred.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED), and First Aid instructor certifications are required or must be obtained within ninety days of employment. A valid Indiana Drivers License is required or must be obtained within thirty days of employment.

Experience

Two years of experience working in recreational sports is preferred; preference will be given to candidates having experience with direct administrative responsibilities in intramural sports and club sport programs. A strong background in risk management, especially as it relates to collegiate recreation, is preferred.


Working Conditions

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work or athletic environments. At times, recreational programming is conducted in outdoor facilities. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings and weekends, and travel.
