Position Summary
Full-time temporary position available on or after March 1, 2023 and ending on or before June 30, 2024 in Athletics. (Possibility of reappointment and/or becoming permanent based on budget, department needs, and job performance.)

Under general supervision of the Director of Athletics, with additional lead work direction from the Head Athletic Trainer, the Athletic Trainer performs the full range of clinical athletic training functions for the student athletes of the intercollegiate teams at Stanislaus State University. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for administering a sports medicine program, working to prevent athletic injuries by evaluating student wellness. When injuries occur, the Athletic Trainer serves as the first responder by recognizing and evaluating the injuries, and subsequently developing treatment and rehabilitation programs, incorporating the appropriate therapeutic modalities and use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment. The Athletic Trainer coordinates and liaisons with physicians, athletes, coaching staff, parents, and other allied health professionals on the status of and treatment for injuries. The Athletic Trainer also counsel athletes, and staff regarding proper athletic training and injury rehabilitation.

Job Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:

Administer rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries, including assisting in scheduling and assigning students for therapy.

Assist in the coordination of a drug prevention program and applicable drug testing requirements for student athletes.

Provide health and safety guidance as well as treatment and rehabilitation sessions for student athletes.

Administer first aid to injured players such as cleaning and bandaging wounds, as well as applying proper therapeutic modalities and treatment protocols to promote healing.

Administer proper taping techniques, bandaging, wrapping, bracing, etc. to help prevent athletic injuries.

Set up appointments for student athletes with the Student Health Center as well as associated Team Physicians as needed.

Supervise safety factors of athletic competition by ensuring elimination of undue hazards.

Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Head Athletic Trainer.

Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with day-to-day processes, pre-game and pre-practice preventative taping and rehabilitation; injury Prevention and Care of Student-Athletes.

Attend athletic contests and special events.

Provide injury updates to respected coaches as needed.

Provide updates to coaches on injury reports and rehabilitation plans and progress as required.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Course work must include completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) curriculum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in athletic training or related field of study.

One (1) year of athletics training experience.

Possess and maintain certification in CPR/AED (cardio pulmonary resuscitation and
automated external defibrillation for the Professional Rescuer.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

General knowledge of the principles and practices of athletic training including conditioning, injury prevention, injury assessment and rehabilitation.

General knowledge of the full range of therapeutic modalities and their practical use and physiological bases; other therapeutic preventions and treatments such as taping, braving, and massage.

General knowledge of the effective use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment.

General knowledge of the rules, regulations, and guidelines established by the campuses' governing national collegiate athletic associations (e.g., National Collegiate Athletics Association or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) pertaining to student athletes, their training, sports medicine care, and health and safety.

General knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards for handling bloodborne pathogens.

General knowledge of maintaining medical records, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards; and following insurance procedures.

Ability to effectively assess and evaluate injuries and evaluate injuries and their severity; develop conditioning and rehabilitation programs and manage and treat injuries.

Ability to use the full range of appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments and rehabilitation and exercise equipment to treat and prevent injuries.

Ability to determine the appropriate referrals for athletes to other health care professionals.

Ability to recognize life threatening situations and administer the appropriate emergency aid.

Ability to use a computer to perform medical, insurance, and other recordkeeping functions; and work in an environment with competing priorities.

Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health professionals.

License or Certifications

Valid California driver's license.

Possess and maintain Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainer

CPR certification.

National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) certification.

Ability to work standing for long periods of time in the training room and outdoors under summer or winter weather conditions.

Must be able to lift heavy items.

Ability to work at a desk for 50% with occasional opportunity to move to other locations within the building or across CSUS campus for meeting, to obtain information, etc.

Salary Range
Anticipated salary will be $3,821 - $4,200 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full range: $3,821 - $7,374 per month)
