    Department Summary

    California State University, San Bernardino is an NCAA Division II member, competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The University seeks an individual who has demonstrated success in attracting campus and community support. The CCAA has been one of the nation's most successful intercollegiate athletic conferences since its establishment in 1938. CCAA members have won 154 NCAA Championships (102 men, 52 women) which is far and away the most of any Division II conference.     Under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Athletic Trainer I performs basic athletic training functions. Assistant Athletic Trainer is expected to assist and following-through with duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or ATC II.

    Job Summary
    • The Athletic Trainer I is to assist with the prevention, recognition, and assessment of athletic injuries. Consult with the Head Athletic Trainer or ATC II on treatment plans. Assist with implementing preventive and rehabilitation programs to treat athletic injuries using the appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments. Travel with sports teams to away games as needed.
    • Assist with the development and administration of rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries. Assist with designing conditioning programs to prevent injuries. Assist with the counseling and assisting student-athletes and staff regarding conditioning, athletic training, therapy, and rehabilitation. Inform coaching staff and other health professionals on the status of injuries and treatment plans.
    • Assist in program development, including coordinating training room operations. Assist with needed coverage for practices, home events, and team travel. Attend practices and athletic events and provide medical emergency coverage to student-athletes. May assist in monitoring the work of student interns/trainers.
    • Maintain equipment and cleanliness of the athletic training and rehabilitation facilities.
    • Assist with department special projects, drug prevention, and testing requirements/programs for student-athletes.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt, Probationary with the possibility of converting to permanent.

    Work Schedule
    • Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; some evenings and weekends required to support athletic competitions, events, and programming.

    Key Qualifications
    • General knowledge of the principles and practices of athletic training including conditioning, injury prevention, injury assessment and rehabilitation.
    • full range of therapeutic modalities and their practical use and physiological basis; other therapeutic preventions and treatments such as taping, bracing, and massage.
    • effective use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment.
    • rules, regulations, and guidelines established by the campuses' governing national collegiate athletic associations (e.g., National Collegiate Athletics Association or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) pertaining to student athletes, their training, sports medicine care, and health and safety.
    • Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards for handling blood borne pathogens.
    • maintaining medical records, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards; and following insurance procedures.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Masters Degree
    • Must have current First Aid, CPR-PR, and AED certification

    Education and Experience
    • Equivalent to bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Course work must include completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) curriculum requirements.

    License and Certifications:
    • Possess and maintain Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer. Some positions may require a valid California driver's license

    Salary:

    Anticipated Hiring Range:$3,571- $3,750 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $2,976 - $5,743 per month
