About the Position:

The Athletics department at Cal State Fullerton strives to provide an intercollegiate athletics program that is an integral part of the total educational experience at California State University, Fullerton and fits within the overall mission of the University. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Athletics Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (Administrator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general direction of the Senior Associate Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletics Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion drives meaningful relationships throughout the campus community to integrate the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion into the Department of Athletics through a curriculum of programming and initiatives that will help create a sense of belonging for student-athletes, coaches, and staff and support them holistically. Leads high-impact, strategic efforts and engages in the planning and implementation of these efforts that actively drive inclusive excellence.

Builds meaningful relationships with campus constituents and students by creating, implementing, and assessing the impact of DEI programming, workshops, and initiatives for the purpose of increasing engagement and attendance within athletics events as well as an overall sense of school pride. Serves on the Athletics Admin Team and works with department heads, coaches, and student-athletes. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university. At least 2 years of experience working with campus communities. Working knowledge of University processes, and DEI Administration.

Ability to create, develop, and implement DEI programming. Ability to facilitate difficult, critical conversations around different subjects and topics in the DEI space. Ability to understand the impact of race and other aspects of identity such as gender, disability, sexual orientation, and age in the workplace. Strong working knowledge of how Title IX measures gender equity in athletics in the three distinct areas of (1) participation; (2) scholarships; and (3) other benefits, including the provision of equipment and supplies, scheduling, travel, tutoring, coaching, locker rooms, facilities, medical and training facilities, and services, publicity, recruiting, and support services. Experience in Title IX compliance requirements governing gender equity in athletics in coordination with NCAA and other rules. Excellent communication, interpersonal and responsive skills to establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations. Ability to effectively interpret, organize and present information in written format and skills to obtain decisions required to move forward toward implementation. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments and individuals within the University. Ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with a wide variety of individuals and organizations, directly and indirectly, involved with projects and/or assignments. Ability to recognize and accommodate changing priorities, meet short and long-term deadlines/goals, complete routine tasks despite intermittent interruptions, manage multiple tasks, and work proactively to avoid crisis and backlog. Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with employees and external agencies. Strong oral communication skills. Must possess excellent customer service and public relations skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree preferred. Five or more years of experience working with campus communities, working knowledge of University processes, and DEI Athletics Administration.
