Job Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of Development for Athletics, the Associate Director of Development for Athletics (ADOD) is a critical member of Georgetown University Athletics' fundraising team, and will play a significant role in building donor connectivity, engagement, and philanthropic support for the needs and priorities of the Georgetown Athletic Department.
The ADOD, Athletics, part of the Office of Advancement, will partner closely with Advancement colleagues, as well as Athletic Department department colleagues, including Georgetown's Athletic Director and various sport coaches, to build and advance investment in needs around the student-athletes, coaches, talent and facilities - all priorities in Georgetown's current and most ambitious campaign yet, Called to Be. While this role will be expected to represent and ask for support for all teams and Department needs, it will have a specialty within certain sports, at the discretion of the Senior Director.
The ADoD's primary responsibility is to manage philanthropy relationships for Georgetown Athletics, which means the position will need to qualify, cultivate, and actively manage a portfolio of approximately 150-200 major gift and planned giving prospects and is expected to travel at least five days per month in order to meaningfully engage and cultivate a community of support. Working with annual metrics, the ADOD, Athletics will be expected to make a minimum of 125 visits annually with current and prospective donors who are undergraduate alumni, current and former parents, and friends. The role will have an annual goal of raising up to $1M as the portfolio matures and must be comfortable asking for five-, six- and, in time, seven-figure gifts.
In addition to managing a personal portfolio of donor relationships for Georgetown, the ADOD, Athletics must also be an engaged partner to regional and unit Advancement colleagues, to ensure all are educated in and understand current Athletic Department and individual sport needs. This can at times mean significant support to gift conversations outside of the individual portfolio. It is crucial for this role to be a collaborative thought partner, and highly effective in leading the branding of Georgetown Athletics in different regional markets as a dynamic place for significant philanthropic support.
At the discretion of the Senior Director of Development, Athletics, the ADOD may provide thought partnership and strategy to various internal and external stakeholders on the advancement of Georgetown's Name, Image, and Likeness work.
Work Interactions
The ADOD will work to represent all of Georgetown Athletics philanthropic needs and priorities, as well as have a foundational understanding of all of Georgetown's campaign initiatives. S/he is expected to be nimble and donor-centric, educated in the content across various sports programs and the department-wide initiatives. The portfolio and donor base this position routinely interacts with will undoubtedly have many points of interests and potential for philanthropic partnerships.
Internally, the ADOD will collaborate with a number of colleagues; various Advancement partners (regional and unit development officers and non-frontline teams- Annual Fund, Donor Engagement, Stewardship, Strategic Initiatives, Alumni Engagement, Board Operations), as well as numerous partners in the Athletic Department as mentioned earlier. This role must be team and relationship oriented, and enjoy balancing a number of stakeholders and partners.
