Job Description:

The Sailing Program is one of the largest and most active programs on campus, competing in over 40 events annually while directly supporting the College's maritime mission through hands-on seamanship and on-the-water training.

This position will assist with daily practices, competition travel, recruiting, and safety oversight while also supporting student-athletes academically and regimentally. The role ensures continued competitiveness, operational stability, and proper supervision during the spring semester.

The Part-Time Assistant Sailing Coach will assist with daily on-the-water practices and provide direct instruction in skill development and race strategy. The position includes traveling with the team to regattas, ensuring safety compliance, and supporting equipment and logistical coordination. The assistant coach will also contribute to recruiting efforts and provide academic and regimental support to student-athletes. This role ensures consistent supervision, competitive preparation, and operational continuity throughout the spring season.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree
2 - 3 years of coaching experience
Demonstrated knowledge of dinghy and/or offshore sailing, including race strategy and safety protocols
Current CPR, First Aid, and boating safety certifications (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
Ability to travel on weekends and work flexible hours during the competitive season
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Coaching experience at a high school, collegiate, or club level

Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: The Assistant Sailing Coach is a UUP position. The anticipated salary for this position is $10,000 to $15,000, with an outstanding benefits package. Special Notes: This is a part-time college year (10-month) appointment. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
